Vince Kong gets a haircut

Vince Kong waits patiently for a haircut

This week, I thought I'd dress as a gorilla and take myself around the various hairdressers and barbers around Twickenham. It turned out to be a lot of fun!

Dan kindly agree to be the photographer again and early on Saturday morning, we set off. Twickenham high street has recently acquired a Phones 4 U mobile phone shop, and despite the fact that I was dressed as a gorilla, the salesman in the street still tried to sell me a phone, almost shoving me into the shop. I protested saying that my gorilla fingers were too big for mobile phone and quickly hurried on.

We reached the first barbers shop with the plan that I was just going to walk in there and sit down, and we'll see what happens from there. The shop was quite busy but I managed to get a seat and just sat and waited. Nothing happened, people went about their business, it was like I was just another customer. I tried a bit of banter but they wouldn't bite, so we headed off very disappointed.

We didn't stay disappointed for long, on the way to the second one, we scared the crap out of a chap coming out of the paper shop, and one little girl was concentrating so hard on looking at me, that she walked right into a sign outside a shop. I know I shouldn't laugh, but it was very funny! She wasn't hurt, don't worry.

The second shop was great, it was quite quiet but the barber was more than happy to be part of show, even pretending to cut my hair!

The third one was the best, this place is very cheap and cheerful, you can get a short back and sides for just seven pounds. As a comparison, Lucy recently had her flowing locks attended to for a mere one hundred pounds!

The barber in the third shop was very funny, in his campest barbers voice he kept asking if I was someone he knew, "Please don't be someone I know, please!! Are you?? Are you someone I know??" he kept saying, after I had reassured him, he asked if we were collecting for something, "Nope just doing it for a laugh" I said!

The final place was actually a proper hairdresser, the sort of place where there are more staff than customers. We walked in and up to the front desk to ask to make an appointment and one of the girls got scared, screamed and ran away. Strange I thought, but I persisted "I think I'd like to get my hair styled, perhaps a perm?". She took it all in good humour and posed for a photo with me, but the batteries were flat in the camera sadly. Oh well, time to go home then.

There was still time for a funny moment on the way back though, one little boy wasn't sure he liked the look of me, and when his sister decide to "boo" him, he started crying, I had to have a good laugh at this, so she told her mum, "Mummy, the gorilla's laughing!". Too right little girl, it even makes me smile when I think about it now!!

Hi Vince,

Maybe next time you should ask for a number one all over, then you can get a job as a bouncer!

Keep 'em coming!
