Live Halo 2 ranking on your site!

VinceMarvellous: Online Halo 2 stats

I love the ranking system on Halo 2, it gives a fairly true indication of how good, bad, or lucky you are at the game. I find myself cherishing each win, I despise losing and have been known to be in a stinking mood following a heavy defeat. Although I do hope that on the outside I remain gracious in defeat and courteous to my opponents even if inside my head I'm secretly cursing the ground they walk on.

I also find myself being overprotective of my ranking. When I've had a few beers, I'll stay out of the game types that hold my highest rankings (for fear of demotion), and I'll try and match my rankings across the various game types, that way if I have a bad day at one particular type, at least my overall rank is unaffected.

If I lived in the United States, I'll be signing up for therapy tomorrow!

But I don't, I live in the Twickenham, and because I've got a website, I do the next best thing to therapy. I publish my ranking.

To do this, I've written a little script to grab my ranking from the Bungie website. This means that my ranking will always be completely up to date, live in fact! When it changes on Bungie, it changes here. If you would like to use it, all you need to do is put this little bit of code on your site (without the returns, they're just for for readability)...

<img src="
display_halo2_level.php?GamerTag=Your-Gamer-Tag" />

My gamertag is VinceMarvellous, so in my case I would use

<img src="
display_halo2_level.php?GamerTag=VinceMarvellous" />

Obviously the only thing that changes is the source of the image, so if you want to class it up, or put ALT text on, go ahead! This is how it looks on the page...

My live Halo 2 level

If you get a red exclamation mark instead of your rank, then something is wrong. Typically it means that the gamertag doesn't exist, or you've not played any games and don't have a rank (shame on you!). If neither of these are the problem, let me know and I'll check it out.

Hope you enjoy it, I'll write a "How I did this" article soon so you can create your own and see you in Halo 2, world later on!

Well done, nice to see some British players getting involved in the wider scopes of Halo.

I've been looking for something like this. Sure, the RSS feed from Bungie has some neat stuff about recent games, but it doesn't include common sense things like your overall rank.

How about posting the source code you're using to extract this, so I can do this on my site without using your bandwidth?
